Terracota objects
Benet
01/07/74. (Sala 025)
Several tables, more or less elongated, made of white painted wood, were placed in the room.
Benet Ferrer’s works are placed on the tables. They consist of objects made in terracotta, a faithful reproduction of different objects, vulgar, of everyday life. His skill is enormous and he achieves a “trompe l’oeil” effect, with the added value that each work has to consider and solve an idea.
Among the objects presented: men’s hats, bath sponges, children’s dresses, plungers, samples of “wallpaper” for decoration, Benet Ferrer brand paper bags…
Most of the objects are placed on the tables, although some flat objects (girls’ dresses) are hung on the walls.
As Jordi Pablo writes: “It would be necessary to value all this, objects that are what they are not, that mean, in short, an ironic or baroque interpretation, an interpretation in ambiguity or equivocation, which is opposed to the anguish of rationality, linearity or seriation that defines the current western society, invariably doomed to an escalation in the consumption of objects; objects that we cannot get to “know” if not through art, play or humor”. Three fundamental characteristics, without a doubt, of the personality of our ceramist, Benet Ferrer”.
