“Le déjeuner d’Huitres célibataires”

This artistic collaboration between Brigitte Szenczi and Juan Antonio Mañas began in 1975 when they settled in Barcelona.

Since then there has been many joint exhibitions where they show their individual work under one common theme.

A great book-sculpture located at the entrance of the hall lets us see the proposed scenes inside. The relief-frames tell us a story about the life of a youngster in the transition from adolescence to adulthood through the four seasons of the year. A central table shows a territory bordering areas of boundaries where water and shores, the forest and the fields, the wild and the cultivated are brought together. And a large painting illustrates the dinner of “des huitres cerlibataires”.

Visitors will discover a number of relationships suggested by the reiterations, quotations and similarities that exist between the pictures and the landscapes. For the authors, this installation revolves around a central theme: the landscape a passing of one state to another.
