GERARD TAYLOR graduated in 1981 at the Royal College of Art in London. Then he moved to Milan where he worked with Sottsass Associati, forming part of the Memphis group.
In 1985, both designers become associates and begin working in London. Since then they have designed objects for the most popular firms: Alessi (Italy), Anthologie Quartett (Germany), Esprit (Australia and England), Knoll Internacional (USA), Memphis Design Group (Italy) Paréntesis (England) a company Daniel Weil created himself to manufacture clocks and electronic radios, Yamagiwa Corporation (Japan).
They define their working method with the title “IDEA, DESPUES FORMA” (Idea, then shape, in English) “You have to be able to work the abstract before shaping”. “Culture” is the keyword for Weil and Taylor, the designer’s main responsibility does not lie in the economic nor in profits but in cultural enrichment. Thus, the picture becomes part of the process.
