El fetichismo de la obra original
Oscar Tusquets
19/03/98. (Sala 180)
On the occasion of the publication of his book Todo es comparable, Oscar Tusquets Blanca exhibits for the first time some of his paintings. Responding to the idea set out in the second chapter of the book, the originals will not be for sale, but on the 19th, 20th and 21st color photocopies of the works or fragments of the visitor’s choice will be available for purchase.
“I have tried to show how, in the traditional Fine Arts -sculpture, painting and architecture-, reproduction has its raison d’être, and the dominant fetishism for the Original Work seems disproportionate, but if in some arts this attitude borders on caricature, it is in those that are defined as serial arts. I am referring, specifically, to photography and industrial design; paradigmatic disciplines of Modernity, of art in the era of mechanical production, of the popularization of Culture, of the suppression of the elitist barriers of Bourgeois Art, of the Art for the People that Bauhaus dreamed of”.
Fragment of the chapter El fetichismo de la Obra Original from the book Everything is comparable, Editorial Anagrama.
From March 19 to April 28, 1998.
With the collaboration of Canon.
