50 years of posters and art committed with Amnesty International

A truly amazing and attractive poster that upholds justice and freedom, for example, can leave an unforgettable mark on people. Over 50 years, some of the most powerful and impacting images against the violations of human rights have been created for Amnesty International to support their campaigns.

“50 Years of Poster and art committed with Amnesty International” is a selection of 30 posters produced by Amnesty International since it was founded in 1961, and designed in collaboration with artists from around the world, including internationally renowned names such as Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Fernando Botero, Alexander Calder, Roman Cieslewicz and Annie Leibovitz, among others.

The exhibition is an overview of the history and the campaigns of the organization, in favor of human rights throughout the last 50 years. It is a tribute to all the artists who have wanted to denounce the injustices in the world through pictures, inviting them to imagine a different, inspiring, and motivating world.

Amnesty International
With over 50 years of experience, is a global movement that includes 3.2 million people worldwide. We work for the respect and protection of the internationally recognized principles of human rights. We carry out research and actions focused on ending grave violations of all human rights: civil, political, social, cultural and economic. From freedom of expression and association, the physical and mental integrity, protection from discrimination, to the right to housing: all are indivisible.

Amnesty International renounces government grants and donations from political parties in order to preserve its independence and freedom of action. Our work is funded solely by the contributions of our members and donors, and with the collaboration of artists who have been closely involved in the history of Amnesty International. Creating a privileged way to denounce and to transmit values as well as to raise funds for the organization.

Thanks to the sale of Juan Genovés posters “The Embrace”, included in this exhibition, Amnesty International was able to finance the start of its activities in Spain. Currently it is difficult to imagine that because of the sole act of painting this picture, a group of people hugging, 35 years ago a person could be sent to prison in Spain as was the case with the author. In the words of this great painter “human rights are a poem, a document that fits all and comes forward in time.”
