26/10/89. (Sala 112)
Two Portuguese architects and a designer present their latest work in furniture.
From 26 October – 25 November 1989.
La Loja da Atalaya, a company located in Lisbon is dedicated since 1974, under the leadership of Manuel Reis, to interior design and the sale of antiques, having gathered works from the sixteenth century to this present day.
With this experience and taking advantage, on the one hand of the furniture restoration workshop and on the other of the high quality of craftsmanship in Portugal, in 1987 they decide to bring together eight artists who came from different backgrounds to produce a collection of furniture.
Among their objectives was to take advantage of the high quality and the fascination of manual work and combine it with industrial production structures creating limited editions, numbered and signed and unique pieces, gathering the differences in the attitudes of each artist.
According to Manuel Reis “The intention is not to break with the history of furniture, but to find in it a tradition that includes industrial production and freedom of each artist. It is the pleasure of owning and using certain objects, the pleasure of producing them”.
From this group of eight artists, La Sala Vinçon shows a selection of furniture by three of them: Filipi Alarcao (Designer), Fernando Sánchez Salvador (Architect) and Eduardo Souto de Moura (Architect).
