ARNE JACOBSEN: 25 years with CYLINDA-LINE AND OTHER CREATIONS
LA SALA VINÇON shows a series of works by Danish designer and architect ARNE JACOBSEN (Copenhagen 1902-1971) from 12 – 18 November 1992. This exhibition aims to emphasize his role as pioneer in furniture and everyday utensil design where the beauty of the objects is defined by its simplicity and functionality.
ARNE JACOBSEN began working with STELTON from the early 60’s, which resulted in a line of household objects, made of stainless steel, which left “decorative” concerns designers had at the time aside and which emphasized on the idea of serene beauty and functionality without useless additions. In October of 1967, this collection was introduced on the market under the name of CYLINDA-LINE, which, thanks to its distinctive character compared with existing products, attracted considerable attention from the public and critics. This same year, the collection was awarded the ID prize by the DANISH DESIGN COUNCIL and in 1968 was awarded by the DESIGN AWARD OF THE AMERICAN INSTITUTE OF INTERIOR DESIGNERS. Another unmistakable sign of recognition as creative pioneer was the inclusion of the CYLINDA-LINE in the permanent collections of the MUSEUM OF MODERN ART in New York, the VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM in London and the DANISH MUSEUM OF DECORATIVE ART in Copenhagen.
This exhibition has been made possible thanks to the collaboration of STELTON, GEORG JENSEN, I.P. LUND, CARL F. PETERSEN, LOUS POULSEN, LIDIA ROQUETA and SELLEX.
